At home, we have a sacred space where we worship God which we commonly call the Temple. As a result, it must be a good and calm environment. When the temple area is properly located according to Vastu Shastra, it can provide the house and the resident’s health, wealth, and happiness. Although a separate puja room would be ideal, in metropolitan locations where space is limited, this is not always practicable. For such homes, you may want to consider a wall-mounted mandir or a small corner mandir, depending on your needs.
Best Placement of a Temple in the House
Your pooja room’s location is critical in determining its auspicious vibe. The best direction is north-east, followed by east and north. If you’re building a new home and have control over where your pooja room is located, we strongly advise you to avoid the basement or upper floors. It’s better if your mandir is built on the ground level.
Ishwar or God is referred to as Ishan. That is the way God/Jupiter wants it to be. As a result, it’s best to retain the temple there. Furthermore, the earth’s tilt is solely towards the northeast, and it travels with the north-starting east’s point. As a result, this corner resembles a railway engine that pulls the entire train. The temple’s placement in this part of the house is similar in that it attracts the energy of the entire house and then propels it forward.
How Should a Temple at Home be Constructed as per Vastu?
When designing the temple, avoid placing it straight on the ground. Keep it on an elevated platform or pedestal instead. Marble or wood should be used to construct the temple. Glass or plastic temples should be avoided. Do not overcrowd the temple. Make sure you don’t have numerous idols of the same God or Goddess in the temple, whether they’re sitting or standing. It is considered inauspicious for the idol or photographs placed in the temple to be cracked or damaged.
Pujas should be able to be performed wherever the temple is located. The entire family usually prays together during big pujas. As a result, make sure there is adequate room for the entire family to sit and pray. The energy flow in the temple area should be good and healthy. So keep it tidy and free of dust and cobwebs, and don’t overcrowd the space with too many decorations. Above all, the temple should provide you with a sense of peace and serenity.
Placement Direction In-Home, Office, and Commercial Spaces
In the house, office, and business locations, a puja room or idol direction of a god or goddess is kept. It is insufficient without proper Vastu Shastra. According to Vastu Shastra, the Puja Mandir should be placed in the home’s north-eastern or eastern corner. It also brings good fortune to your location.
In the puja room, God should face west and devotees should face east. The size of the lord idols in a Puja Mantap should be proportional to the size of the Mantap. When performing puja, the size of the mandir is unimportant. The Diya should be kept or lit in the direction of the south-east. A puja room is an important feature of a home and an ideal location for worshiping the god. Using a mat or a puja chowki, devotees should maintain some level of isolation when praying or sitting in the puja mandir. A threshold must be present at the puja hall’s entrance.
Dos and Don’ts for Decorating a Temple at Home
The temple is sometimes kept in the bedroom or the kitchen by some individuals. In such cases, when the temple is not in use, place a curtain in front of it. Also, if you’re going to put a temple in your kitchen, make sure to put it in the northeast corner. It’s also worth noting that the temple shouldn’t be built against a toilet wall. It also shouldn’t be positioned beneath a toilet on the second story. It is unlucky to build the temple in the basement.
The temple should be built high enough for the statues’ feet to be at the level of the devotee’s chest. Never set the idol down on the ground. The idol should be no more than 10 inches tall. Make sure that the idols aren’t crammed together.
If you’re using a wooden temple, make sure it has a dome on top and that the entrance to the puja chamber has a threshold. If an idol is injured, it should be replaced immediately, and broken idols should never be kept in the temple. According to Vastu, a puja room should have a two-shutter door. In such instances, the idol should not be placed right in front of the door.
Choose the next best alternative that can be worked out if you live in a tiny flat or if the layout of the property does not enable Vastu-compliance for the home temple. As it provides natural light, the optimum orientation for a temple in your home is northeast. In the lack of natural light, artificial lighting can be used to illuminate the puja area, especially if it is a chamber with no windows.
